This is our Fifth Annual Holiday Newsletter.
Family News
Kristin, my oldest daughter, began work on her masters degree this summer
and continues as a head teacher at the local Montessori school. My son-in-law
Stbon continues to increase his expertise as a beekeeper, and this year
he began experimenting with pollen collection. My grandson Kulan, now
five, turned his interest from flying insects to designing and flying
paper airplanes. Shaina, my youngest daughter, turned 21 this month (How
does it move so fast?). She's loving San Diego even though Hawaii homesickness
overcomes her sometimes. To everyone's surprise, I shaved off my beard
of thirty years. This fall Melinda and I attended Apimondia, an international
beekeeping congress where we learned a lot, especially about apitherapy
- the ancient art of using products of the bee hive in the healing process.
Annette, Baki and Sunee have settled in as a great, energetic team, that
extracts, bottles, labels, packs and ships our wonderful honey. We were
sorry to see Lori (Annette's daughter) leave for an office job in town.
Ernie (Lori's husband) still helps when needed, as does Tammi. Autumn
(Baki's daughter), her friend Erin, and Lynea (Sunee's daughter) helped
out for the summer and are now back in school. Daniel and Mark (a good
friend's sons) helped harvest when Melinda and I were away, and Clara,
who still meticulously keeps our books, covered the office. Theresa, a
dear friend, helps wherever there is a need. Melinda still runs the office,
is learning bookkeeping, enjoys going out to harvest honey, and continues
to improve her skill as a singer.
Certified Organic Artisan Honey
Living by the "old style" standard of integrity and high quality
as we do, where money is not the most important reason for doing business,
is now being referred to as an "artisan" business. Our honey
has always been harvested and bottled in the most pure and natural way;
now, we have had it certified organic by Quality Assurance International
which means it meets strict organic laws of California, as well as international
standards.
New Offerings
This year we're offering some new products. We have a limited amount available.
We want to hear how you like them.
Ginger honey: This holiday season we are reintroducing and improved, even
tastier version of our ginger honey. We have infused our kiawe honey with
organic Hawaiian ginger puree. If you like ginger you'll love this honey.
Delicious!
Peppermint honey: One day Melinda stirred pure, essential oil of peppermint
into our kiawe honey for her mom. When we tasted it, we all loved it.
The result - for the Holidays - a healthy candy cane in a jar (no red
stripes).
Lilikoi honey: Melinda, now on a roll, added naturally grown, Hawaiian
Lilikoi puree (known as passion fruit) to our delectable honey. We know
you will love this one. Tropical, sweet and tart - truly, honey with passion.
Larger jar: Until now our largest jar was 8 oz. In response to your requests
we are experimenting, for the Holiday Season, with a limited number of
1.25 lb. (20 oz) jars of our Rare White Honey. The price is $21.50 (on
sale for $19.35).
New Label
Because of our organic certification we are rearranging our label and
making some small changes. It now will say Volcano Island - Rare White
Honey, instead of Rare Hawaiian White Honey. We still have a supply of
the old labels so you may get either one. The honey is the same
organic and delectable.
