First Flush Japanese Green Tea. The “first flush” is
the newly emerged fresh growth of spring which appears after
the dormancy of winter. The young tender shoots are deeply steamed
for a deep green liquor, rich aroma, and a grassy flavor with
little astringency.
Kimberly and Takahiro Ino are the owners of Mauna
Kea Tea, importers of the Kagoshima First Flush. Kimberly
and Takahiro are our neighbors in Ahualoa on the Island of
Hawai‘i, and are growing their own specialty tea at the Mauna
Kea Tea Garden. Until their tea is fully mature and processed,
they are importing tea grown on an award-winning family farm
in Kagoshima prefecture in Southern Japan. A high honor in
the world of tea, this farm has won the grand prize in the
Sencha category at the Japan National Tea Contest. Learn
