Apiary Farm Tours

Delve deeply into the magical world of the honey bee with Richard Spiegel, owner of Volcano Island Honey Co.

Hawaiian Artisan Farm Tour

We offer three different types of farm tours to suit your level of adventurousness:

BEE FARM TOUR

Hawaii Organic Honey Farm Tour

This tour is very popular with visitors who are curious about honey, honeybees (the tiny and fascinating insects that create honey), and how honey is extracted and bottled.

You will learn about this remarkable and intriguing insect that is not only hard-working but has astonishing mental capacities. You will also learn about how our unique, delectable, terroir product, Rare Hawaiian Organic White Honey, is produced.

In addition to learning about the practicalities of agriculture, working with bees, and honey production, you will hear about Richard’s philosophical ideals regarding farming and running an environmentally and socially sensitive and responsible business.

Of particular interest to many visitors is the live beehive demonstration. Richard will open a live hive and you can comfortably watch the bees working on the honey comb close-up, through a glass window.

Cost: $50 per adult; $15 per child under 16

Minimum: To schedule a tour a minimum of 5 Adults ($250) is required, or any combination of adults and children totaling $250. When possible we will coordinate your visit with other groups to meet the minimum.

Schedule: Generally available Mon – Thurs 1:30 – 3:30 pm, depending on farm work.

Since this is a working honey farm, tour availability is dependent upon Richard’s schedule and the farm schedule. Please book in advance.

Customized tours and times may be possible; this too depends on our schedule. Please call our office to inquire.

BEE HIVE TOUR

Hawaii Organic Honey Farm Tour

In this exclusive, intimate experience, you will spend one-on-one time with Richard Spiegel, who shares his knowledge about bees and producing an award-winning, artisan honey.

Richard shares from his heart his personal and professional philosophy, which evolved from over 30 years of working with bees, combined with his experience as a lawyer and mediator. This unusual combination of perspectives have melded to produce an adamantly earth- and people-centered philosophy.

Let Richard be your guide as you don a bee suit and open a live bee hive together, experiencing the inner world of the bees first hand.  Sweeten your visit with a honey tasting – sampling all of our unique honeys.

Cost: $350/group,

Maximum: 5 people per group (no minimum)

Schedule: Generally available Mon – Thurs 1:30 – 3:30 pm, depending on farm work.

Since this is a working honey farm, tour availability is dependent upon Richard’s schedule and our farm schedule.  Please book in advance.
