Silence of the Bees Hits Home in Hawaii

As beekeepers and gatherers of organic honey we are, of course, closely following the worldwide dissapearance of bees. Here in Hawaii, we are now having to deal with the recently introduced varroa mite which is devastating to hives and a real challenge to certified organic beekeepers. (We don’t have the mite as of this writing.)

We recently watched the re-broadcast of Silence of the Bees on Nature on PBS. It really is a great overview of what is happening with the Bees right now and the importance of bees. You can check out their website and watch Silence of the Bees online.

Following is a shorter YouTube version.
